Girl sells lemonade to help friend

ALPENA, Mich. — The Fourth of July weekend is a time of patriotism. One Alpena girl has also made it a time of generosity.

If you passed by the Tawas and Ninth intersection Saturday, you probably saw Evelyn running her lemonade stand.

Last year, she used her money to buy a few new toys and take her family out for ice cream. This year, however, she’s sending her profits to her 5–year–old friend, Knox, who has a rare degenerative brain disease.

Plenty of people came by for a drink, but Evelyn refused to tell us her recipe.

“It’s a secret… But it is homemade.”

Evelyn told WBKB she wants to beat the 500 dollars she earned last year.

Considering she made more 200 dollars Saturday, she’s almost halfway there.

The money will help Knox’s family with various medical expenses.
