Game of the Week: A Rivalry Separated by 15 Miles

Week two of the 2023-24 high school football season is here. The slate is set for WBKB Sports featured Game of the Week. This week features a guaranteed battle between the Rogers City Hurons and Posen Vikings.

Despite their last-minute schedule change, the Posen Vikings rose to the occasion. Posen defeated Pellston by a final score of 50-26. Now the Vikings head to Rogers City in hopes of improving their record to 2-0. Head Coach Greg Pietsch believes this game will be a showdown. “Whenever these two teams get together,” he said. “It’s going to be hard-hitting.”

The Hurons have the advantage heading into Friday’s game. Rogers City defeated Posen in a highly defensive 12-6 matchup last year. The Hurons also had a similar start to the season with a 30-6 win over Charlton Heston. These rival teams have something in common and that’s pulling away with a 2-0 record.

Head Coach Jesse Fenstermaker has prepared his team for what lies ahead. “We know it’s going to be a slug fest,” he said. “Whoever comes out on top is definitely going to earn it.” The two rivals are separated by only 15 miles. Both the Hurons and Vikings agree on one thing. “Records go out the window when two rivals play each other,” he said. “You’re going to get the best out of both teams and this year will be no different.”

Posen heads to Rogers City on September 1. The Hurons and Vikings are set to kick off at 7 p.m.
