Friends Together Classic Car Show in Alpena Tuesday
The fifth Friends Together Classic Car Show Benefit hosted by Wal-Mart and The Vision Center will take place on Tuesday.
Last year was a rain soaked, so this year they’re hoping for good weather and lots of people and cars.
“This year, we’re just hoping to get more enthusiasts out there again, hopefully get more of the community to participate, last year they got rained on,” said Santiago Becerra, a certified optician at The Vision Center. “A lot of people don’t like to bring their cars out during that time of year, but this year we have some exciting door prizes that we want to offer to the community that comes out, so it should be a great time.”
Even with the rain last year, the car show still had a considerable amount of people bringing by their fancy cars. This year they’re hoping even more people bring out their classic hot rods.
“We’re hoping to have plenty cars this year, hopefully maybe up to 100. In the past, we’ve gotten around 50 and 60 cars, so we’re hoping to see that double with a good weather day,” said Becerra.
The car show is a benefit for Friends Together, a nonprofit organization that supports cancer survivors. Attendees can buy a hot dog, bag of chips and a drink, and three dollars for every purchase goes to Friends Together.
“It’s an awesome opportunity,” said Becerra. “Friends Together is a great organization here serving the people of Alpena and the neighboring counties. They help cancer survivors and people going through cancer treatment at this time, so any participation we can get, any funds that we can get to raise towards their organization is a bonus for Wal-Mart.”
The car show begins on Tuesday, July 25th at 3pm and runs until 7pm. Admission is free, and anyone who wants to show up and support Friends Together is welcome to come.
