Friends Together Classic Car Show Cruises Into Alpena

The Friends Together Classic Car Show hosted by Wal-Mart and The Vision Center was back in the Wal-Mart parking lot on Tuesday afternoon for its fifth year.

From Cutlasses to Firebirds to Corvettes, all sorts of different hot rods were on display, and the rain stayed away, unlike last year.

“It was here a couple years ago, I had an open top car and I scattered for home real quick, and I just pulled in the garage when it started pouring,” said car enthusiast Bob Eller.

Some of the people with cars at the show have been car enthusiasts for as many as 35 years, picking up the hobby long ago and maintaining it to this day.

“I went to auto body class a year out of high school and went to my first car show up at St. Ignace, a big car show, and was hooked,” said car enthusiast Bernie Borowski.

Even Eller, who has been a car enthusiast for 25 years now, has had his tastes in cars change over the years.

“I went more from the street rod type car to a modern car that has more conveniences like cool seats and heated seats and air conditioning, you know, that kind of stuff,” he said.

The car show is a benefit for Friends Together, and anyone who came out could purchase a hot dog, bag of chips and soft drink, and those proceeds would go towards friends together. Those who showed up were happy to support the nonprofit.

“Car guys are great;” said Borowski. “They come together to help out any of the causes, any foundation, anyone that needs help, car guys are always right there to help. It’s a culture, it truly is.”

The car show ran at the Alpena Wal-Mart parking lot from 3pm until 7pm.
