Friends of Alpena County Animal Control Looks To Bring Christmas To The Dogs

While most people are spending time with their loved ones at home this holiday season, the four legged residents of the Alpena Sheriff’s Office Animal Control are just happy to have a safe space to live as they wait for their forever homes. During this time, having clean blankets, toys, and bed makes a huge impact on the residents.

A volunteer group called “Friends Of Alpena County Animal Control” works with the community to receive these donations that make the shelter feel a little more like home to its residents. Myra DeCaire, a dedicated volunteer with the group, shares about the impact, “So many people donate food and toys and blankets and towels, we couldn’t do it without the community.” The shelter relies on these donations to keep running and providing top quality care.

With the holiday season on the way, donations are needed to spread the cheer to their residents. DeCaire shares, “We are looking for toy donations so that each shelter dog can pick their own toy for Christmas.” This way, each dog gets to participate in the holiday’s celebration.

If interested in donating, people can find more information on the “Friends of Alpena County Animal Control” Facebook page or drop off donations at their location at the Alpena County Fairgrounds. People can also donate directly through the group’s Amazon wish list, here.
