Fire on the lake
ALPENA, Mich. — An unexpected hero came to the rescue on Friday afternoon.
Alpena Fire Department, Sheriff’s Department, and DNR boats responded to a call about a burning boat near the harbor 2 PM on Friday. Meanwhile, an off-duty paramedic from Green Bay, WI, saw the fire from his own boat nearby. He got boat’s two occupants out of the water and gave them first aid. He then took them to shore, where an ambulance drove them to MidMichigan Hospital.
One of the pair, a 55-year-old man, suffered second-degree burns. The other escaped with less serious injuries.
The cause of the fire is still unknown.
