Financial planning should align with personal values, says expert
ALPENA Mich. — In this week’s Money Makeover, one personal financial education expert advises consumers to avoid a one-size, fits all approach to reaching their financial goals. President & CEO of the National Endowment for Financial Education, Dr. Billy Hensley, says consumers should follow a plan that best aligns with their personal values and experiences they find most important.
“Look at your own life and your values. That’s something we talk a lot about in this industry, ” said Dr. Hensley. “Don’t just follow a prescribed static plan. Think about what you value in your life and make decisions that help you achieve that,” he said.
Dr. Hensley also said participation in employer-sponsored savings programs, where available, should also be considered an integral part of long-term financial planning.
The National Endowment for Financial Education provides free personal financial education and resources for the entire family.
