Employers inaccurately reporting employees hours

ALPENA, Mich –Some employees in Michigan are almost working for free which has prompted an investigation.

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division paid over 49,000 in back wages to four employees.

The department determined that the violations for the fire protection and law enforcement employees resulted from overtime requirements of the fair labor standards act.

The city failed to recognize and pay overtime to the four employees.

According to Spokesperson for WHD, Timolin Mitchell, employers must understand the laws that apply to their employees.
