Donovan’s Serenity & Wellness Offers Free Wig Fittings for Chemotherapy Patients

Going through chemotherapy is one of the scariest times in a cancer patient’s life. It can cause their hair to fall out, possibly leaving them without a sense of identity.

Donovan’s Serenity and Wellness in Alpena, a locally owned hairdresser and salon, is offering free wig fittings for people going through chemotherapy. Nicole Stark took over the spa seven years ago after Sandra Donovan’s retirement.

“I have them come in, do a consultation, they pick out a wig, sometimes we have one here that they like and they can take it home that day or I have a booklet that we order from and match them, whatever color they want and just try to get one that suits them,” said Stark.

For people dealing with such a scary and uncertain time, Donovan’s Serenity and Wellness offers a peaceful and friendly atmosphere, so they know they are not alone.

“I feel like I just have that way about me that I feel really comfortable and I can make them feel comfortable, and because I have so much experience in it, I can talk to them about what they’re going through, that sort of thing,” said Stark.

Having cancer and having to go through chemotherapy can take a lot out of a person. Stark enjoys giving something back to them, no matter how small.

“It is so rewarding, especially once they come in, they get their wig and it looks natural and nice, and just seeing the look on their face when they look in the mirror and they feel like themselves again, it’s awesome,” she said.

Anyone interested in a free wig setting can contact friends together, who will then refer them to Donovan’s Serenity and Wellness.
