Construction Projects to Begin on M-65 Bridges in Iosco County

Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is starting a new construction project aimed to fix two bridges in Iosco County.

According to James Lake the Media Representative for MDOT the project is starting on August 14. The plan is to make repairs to two bridges on M-65 in Iosco County. One is over the Au-Gres River, and the other is over Johnson creek.

The project is necessary for upkeep and safety.  “Both bridges will be worked on at the same time,” said Lake. “They are relatively close together. We are going to have contractors close one lane of traffic on the bridge at once and have one lane open and alternating directions with a temporary traffic signal.” Drivers are recommended to keep in mind the construction when planning their daily commute.

MDOT is using $433,000 to make repairs to the concrete and update the guardrail. “This is work aimed at preserving the condition of the bridges,” Lake said. “Keeping them in good working condition and extending their service life.”

The construction project is set to last until October 20, of this year. Lake would like people to use extra caution when driving through construction zones. “With any construction job that drivers will encounter, we ask that they slow down,” he said. “Make sure that they are paying attention and make sure that they and our construction workers stay safe.”
