Carbon monoxide detector saves lives

ALPENA, Mich. — Carbon monoxide detector saves choking two–year–old child’s life.

According to Community Risk Reduction Captain, Andy Marceau, the parents initially thought the child may have choked on something.  Responders carry bags that have CO alarms and when they entered the residence, the alarm went off.  Marceau said the child was possibly having seizure activity from the CO.

Marceau stresses the importance of having a CO detector in your home and said prior to this happening, he had just submitted a grant application to Northeast Michigan Community Foundation and was awarded $3,000.  He said through a state bid through Home Depot, he has 156 CO alarms coming to his station within the next two weeks.

The alarms are on a first-come first-serve basis and to receive one you can call 989–354–1859.
