APS struggles with uncertainty around COVID-19 executive orders

ALPENA, Mich. — Alpena Public Schools are struggling with uncertainty as to whether Executive Orders related to COVID–19 are still in effect.

The Michigan Supreme Court ruled on October 2, that current Executive Orders issued after April 30, were done without authority.  This has raised the question whether Executive Orders are still in effect for 21 days from the ruling.

According to APS Superintendent, David Rabbideau, the impact of this decision is unclear at this time.

Rabbideau said out of caution, APS will continue to implement their board of education approved COVID–19 preparedness and response plan.  Rabbideau added they will also follow guidance from District Health Department No. 4.
