AMA Education Service Distrct extends COVID sick leave benefit

ALPENA- Mich. –

The Alpena Montmorency Alcona Educational Service District has taken an extra step to protect its district workers. The organization has decided it will extend its COVID related sick leave benefit to its employees in 2021, even if federal money for the benefit expires on December 31st.

District superintendent Scott Reynolds said while there has been talk about a federal extension, he and his team felt it was important to continue to look out for district employees.

“Our organization thought it was important to extend that leave,” said Reynolds. “I think it’s a really reasonable, yet small step towards providing some financial assurance and reduce some of the angst.”

According to Reynolds by extending the COVID sick leave benefit, it allows the district to keep the staff, students and community safe.
