Alpena Rolls Past Cadillac with 42-38 Win

ALPENA, MI – The Alpena Wildcats girls basketball team snapped their three-game losing streak with a 42-38 win over Cadillac on Friday night.

Alpena’s defense held the Vikings off to secure the win at home. The Wildcats held Cadillac to just three points during the first quarter as they took a 13-3 lead. The Vikings kept on fighting in the second as they tied the game up at 13-13. The Wildcats let up going into halftime with a score of 19-17.

An 8-0 run in the fourth quarter gave Alpena the lead that they needed, but Cadillac only trailed 40-38. Avery Dubey and Reese Wisniewski led Alpena in scoring. Both girls finished the night with 11 points each.

Cadillac’s top scorers were Reina McMahon and Kaleigh Swiger. McMahon had 10 points and Swiger finished with eight.

Both of Alpena’s boys and girls games benefitted the community of Escanaba and the Weaver Family. The Wildcats raised $2,300 to give to the Weaver’s.

The Wildcats are back in action on Monday against Tawas at 6 p.m.
