Alpena Jets 7th Grade Team Drops Home Opener to Ogemaw Browns

The Alpena Jets youth football 7th grade squad opened their season on Sunday afternoon at Wildcat Stadium against the Ogemaw Browns.

First play from scrimmage for the Browns, it’s a reverse, but Reid Hansen comes in to blow it up and cause a fumble, Jets defense gets a big turnover right off the bat.

Ensuing Jets drive in Browns territory, it’s a toss play to the left and Conner Kauffman is going to walk in for a touchdown. The two point conversion try was no good; Jets lead early, 6–0.

Next Browns possession, Addison Wenkel gets the handoff, puts on a couple of nice moves and takes it nearly untouched into the end zone, Browns two point try was also no good, we’re tied at 6.

Wenkel would get another handoff later on and go untouched this time, and scores the second touchdown of the day for the Browns; they lead 12–6 in the first half.

End of the half, Xander Barbeau’s pass is intercepted by Collin Maleski; Browns took a 6–point lead into halftime.

Third-and-goal for the Browns in the second half, Maleski takes the handoff, but Connor Kaminske and Fitch Smith combine to force the fumble and get the ball back to the Jets, still trailing by a touchdown.

Backed up in their own end zone, Evan Kalisch takes the pitch but is brought down for a safety by Denny Fernelius, Browns extend their lead to 14–6.

Late in the fourth quarter, Browns looking to put the exclamation point on this one, Gage David’s pass is complete to Hunter Vallance, he goes all the way 53 yards for a touchdown, they would convert on the two point try and lead it 22–6.

Alpena would add onto their score, Kaminske is going to take this one right up the middle, all the way to the end zone, but it would not be enough as the jets drop their home opener, 22–12.
