Alpena Girls Basketball Out to Defend District Title
ALPENA, MI- In 2021-22, the Alpena girls Basketball team was crowned district champions. Despite losing many key contributors, they hope to do it again.
The season got started with a 57-53 over Oscoda. Despite winning, Head Coach Laura Dubey knows there is plenty to improve on. ” We struggled on defense a bit. We need to improve on our help defense and off ball defense.”
Senior Captain Marah Wisniewski is the lone senior captain on the team and talked about adjusting to a new group of players. “Being one of the seniors that came back it is important to show that leadership. Bringing everyone together is challenging at first.”
Alpena is just getting the season in gear. The opener against Escanaba is on December 13. The team will also play against Tawas on December 16 at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.
