Alpena County Sheriff Swears in Two New Deputies

Alpena county sheriff Erik smith swore in two new deputy sheriffs today at his office.

Sarah Lijewski and Zach Suszek spent 17 weeks at Delta Regional Police Academy in Saginaw and were given the oath of office on Wednesday morning. Both of them started in the corrections office at the jail, and then were sponsored through the academy. They were put through classroom work, weapon training, and driving. They will soon start another 17 weeks of field officer training.

“It’s pretty intense, so I applaud them for sticking it out and being good candidates, and being here at the sheriff’s office,” said Smith.

Lijewski says she is ready for the next round of training.

“I’m excited for it, I can’t wait to learn all of the different things from all the different officers, I know every officer does things different, so I can’t wait to learn what each officer does different, and hopefully, I’ll learn what I like to do myself,” she said.

Both Lijewski and Suszek will begin another level of training that will begin immediately.
