ALPENA, MI- The Alpena Wildcats hockey team is playing their best hockey of the year going into Christmas break.

The team is coming off of wins against Big North Conference rivals Cadillac and Traverse City Central.  The team was firing on all cylinders as they outscored the two opponents by a combined score of 11-2.

Goalie Aidan Schultz was solid between the pipes and talked about how the team is focused on staying in game shape despite a 1o day layoff. “We are trying to be active every day and mental stay where we want to be. We  don’t want to get away from what we are trying to do here.”

The offense was also coming off of a strong couple of performances. The offense has been getting production from multiple lines and skaters. While this team knows it has talent, but knows they need to work just as hard to compete with top teams.

Reid Meinhardt is one of those key pieces who discussed the need for a better work ethic. ” Our work ethic can still get better, we can play faster. That is our identity, we play fast.”

The Wildcats are off until after Christmas, they return to the ice on December 27, when the host Escanaba at Northern Lights Arena.
