ACC Hires Brandon Humphrey as New Women’s Basketball Head Coach

ALPENA, MI – The Alpena Community College Lumberjacks have found a new head coach for the women’s basketball program. ACC has hired Brandon Humphrey as the new leader of the women’s basketball team.

The Lumberjacks were on the lookout for their next women’s basketball head coach. With 13 years of experience, ACC found their headman in Humphrey. The new head coach immediately fell in love with Alpena, and the close-knit culture of ACC. “It was a family-like atmosphere,” he said. “I think that’s really what ultimately sold me.”

Humphrey has experience in seemingly every facet of the game. Starting his coaching career with middle school players, then moving onto the high school level. He even became a referee at one point to stay close to the game while finishing his degree. Humphrey became the assistant coach at his alma mater in Paw Paw, Michigan. He credits his time coaching the ladies there as the defining moment where he realized his passion for coaching women. Now ACC will reap the benefits of Humphrey’s enthusiasm for the game. “One of the big words that they use at ACC is ‘excellence’,” he said. “We want to drive a program of excellence with a championship mentality.”

With plenty to do before the upcoming Lumberjack season, Humphrey has his goals set for the future of the program. It’ll take some time but the new head coach is up to the challenge. “We’ll set the culture and get the locker room to where we want it,” he said. “It’s going to sell itself.”

The ACC women’s 2023-24 basketball season will kick off in November 2023.
