UPDATE: TBJH Bomb Threat

A Thunder Bay Junior High student could be facing some serious charges after a prank gone wrong.

On may 25th around 1pm, a written bomb threat was discovered in a boys bathroom stall at the school. The building was evacuated immediately for the safety of staff and students.

A sweep by the Michigan State Police bomb-detecting dog determined that the threat was not credible. After reviewing security camera footage and conducting interviews, the student responsible for the threat has been identified as a 7th grader. Since the 13-year-old male is a juvenile his name will not be released.

It is said that the child has no previous criminal history. An incident report has been sent to the Alpena County Prosecuting Office, requesting criminal charges against the child for making a terrorist threat and or false report of terrorism.

According to Lieutenant Bob LaBarge of the Alpena County Sheriffs Office, for an adult this is a felony offense, punishable by up to 20 years, up to $20,000 and or a combination of both.

If found guilty, the student also faces sanctions from the school district as appropriate under district policy and state statute.
