Undefeated Posen Vikings Prepares for Playoff Opener

There’s no denying that something special is going on in Posen. Finishing the high school football season with a perfect 8-0 record, the Posen Vikings are gearing up for their postseason appearance.

The Vikings stole the North Star League Little Dipper division championship from Au Gres-Sims in a thrilling fashion. In a back and forth battle, Posen held off the Wolverines with a 46-42 victory on October 20. Head Coach Greg Pietsch believes his team will take all of that momentum into playoffs. “We know we’re going to have our hands full with Powers North Central,” he said. “Playing in a game that was that intense propelled us into the playoffs.”

Currently in his 10th season, Coach Pietsch knows his players very well. He’s been coaching some of his kids since their youth football days. The moment has come full circle as Pietsch prepares those same players for playoffs. “It’s just been a lot of sacrifice and investment,” he said. “It’s one of the best teams I’ve coached, no doubt about it.”

Senior quarterback Jack Romel is certainly a key component to what makes the team so unique. Romel is currently at a milestone 19 touchdowns and 1,153 rushing yards so far this year. “The numbers don’t really mean anything to him,” said Pietsch. “What means the most to him is being successful as a team first.”

The Vikings are inching towards their playoff opener against the 7-2 Powers North Central Jets. “The approach we’ve had is to show up, work hard and finish everything,” he said. “It seems to have worked.”

The Vikings host the Jets on October 28 at 3 p.m.
