Thunder Bay Film Society Crowdsourcing Cover Art for 2018 Sunrise 45 Film Festival

The Thunder Bay Film Society is crowd-sourcing their cover art for the 2018 Sunrise 45 Film Festival.

Alpena- The Sunrise 45 Film Festival doesn’t kick off until the middle of August, but the Thunder Bay Film Society is already looking into new cover art for their 2018 celebration of film.

Last year, the group chose local artist Anneliese Mathia to design the cover art for the programs, Facebook page, and website. For this year, the group, along with recommendations from Mathia, decided to go in a different direction and incorporate the community into the festival.

“There is a lot of really talented artists around here and we thought it would be a really cool thing to get them involved,” said Festival Director Joe Rybarczyk.

In it’s first year, The festival featured just over 40 films. With over 50 submissions for the second year, expect a similar number of films from all over the world. When it comes to an art format, theme, or specific color scheme, the society is open to pretty much anything.

“We are open to all genres of art whether it’s painting, collage, photography, drawing, you name it,” said Rybarczyk.

Now, the artwork does have a few restrictions. No pornography or violence will be allowed. The artwork must also fit the canvas criteria that you can find by clicking here. You can submit artwork online or by dropping your work off at Art in the Loft. The deadline is July 1st and the winning artist will receive four all-access passes to this year’s film festival which goes from August 17-19 at several locations in Alpena. The winning artist will be announced on July 10.
