TC Central Delivers a Shut Out to Wildcats in BNC Battle

ALPENA, MI – It was a crucial Big North Conference matchup between the Wildcats (11-9) and rival Trojans (9-9) at Northern Lights Arena. Alpena’s winning streak came to an end as TC Central pulled through with the 3-0 victory on Wednesday night.

It was a chippy game from start to end on both sides. TC Central had a scoring opportunity when Zander Lorincz went on a breakaway which resulted in a penalty shot. The senior shot the puck above the net to end the first period scoreless.

Lorincz got his revenge in the second period. He was given a pass from Blake Weaver to find the back of the net giving Central a 1-0 lead.

Lorincz didn’t stop there. With under two minutes remaining, the senior tallied another goal with an assist from Benjamin Burley to extend the Trojans lead to 2-0 after two.

Central had the momentum going into the third. Cole Herzberg had a scoring chance on a breakaway but Alpena goaltender Parker Schuldt made a glove save. The Wildcats were on the power play with an opportunity when Brody Misiak hit the post with 6:30 on the clock. Garrett Hamp also had a chance when his shot was stopped by Central goaltender Kiel Knapp. Hamp was given a penalty shot resulting in another save by Knapp.

Herzberg delivered the final score of the game with 2:30 remaining on a turnover bringing the final score to 3-0. The Trojans swept the season series against Alpena regaining the conference crown from the Wildcats.

Alpena travels to Cadillac on January 26 at 6 p.m.
