Tawas Braves Bring Old-School Football into 2023-24 Season

TAWAS, MI – The 2023-24 high school football season is quickly approaching. The Tawas Braves are taking a unique approach this fall as the team aims to set themselves apart from the rest of their competition.

The Braves’ program has done a complete turnaround ever since Zach Blanchard took over as head coach last season. Blanchard’s coaching philosophy has not only changed how his players train, but more importantly his players’ mentalities have completely transformed. Coach Blanchard spent last year perfecting the little things and his team works on improving one day at a time. “I would say last year we planted the seed but now it’s turning into a tree,” he said. “It’s getting better and better each day.”

Blanchard’s coaching style isn’t for the weak. His goal is all about turning boys into men and the task has proven to be worthwhile. At any given time, you may see the Braves’ jerseys covered in their blood, sweat and tears this season. Senior running back Maximus Herrick stands behind the coaching mentality. “We’re here to play football and we’re going to hit people,” he said. “We’re not going to be scared.”

The Braves are bringing old-school football to the new generation of players this 2023-24 season. Tawas believes there’s only one way to play the game of football and that’s with intensity, aggression and physicality. “You have to come out there with a competitive mindset,” said Blanchard. “You get to see the fruits of your labors when those games come around.”

The Braves’ football program is expecting to reap the benefits of their work during the off-season. The team is set to kick off the 2023-24 season on August 24 at 7 p.m. hosting the Pinconning Spartans.
