Summer Kick-Off Alley Show at The Fresh Palate

Summer is officially underway at The Fresh Palate, as they held their kick off show in the alley on Saturday night.

Four local musical acts were on display, and people from all over northeast Michigan and beyond came out to rock out to the music.

“We got everybody hitting town for the Fourth of July weekend, so lots of people from out of town are going to come hang out with us, so I think it’s the perfect time,” said Chris Chrzan, Event Coordinator at The Fresh Palate. “The sun’s out, we got out of all the – maybe – rainy weather, so perfect time to just kick it off and get ready for a great summer at The Fresh Palate.”

The four bands that performed were TrolliMog, Mercier, State the Odds, and Citrus Orange – all bands local to Alpena, whose music scene is growing.

“I’ve been able to do more here artistically than in a larger city like Nashville, and you’d be like, ‘wow, wouldn’t you have so many things available to you there?’ that’s the problem,” said Mitch Stevenson, guitarist for TrolliMog. “Here, you have one or two things and you jump into it a lot easier, make a bigger splash.”

Supporting local artists is important for The Fresh Palate, so they were happy to feature each of these northeast Michigan acts.

“We start with local produce, Eric [Peterson] always buys his art inside the restaurant from local artists, and we always try to get as many local musicians on stage as possible,” said Chrzan.

The local bands appreciate everyone coming out to support their craft as well.

“I’m excited to unveil that because my girlfriend and my family is going to be coming in, and they haven’t heard any of it, so it’s going to be very rewarding for me,” said Stevenson. “Hopefully the rain stays away, it’s bright right now, but who knows up here?”

Northeast Michigan residents came out from near and far and enjoyed the performances each of the bands put on.
