Structure Fire in Alpena Township

ALPENA, Mich. — A fire in a storage building in Alpena Township last night left no injuries, however destroyed the building and its contents.

Alpena City and Alpena Township Northside paid-on-call firefighters were dispatched to a fire in a storage building behind a residence on Bernice Lane at 6:18 p.m. last night. The first unit to arrive was the Alpena City firefighters, who discovered the blaze to be threatening a nearby boat.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze with help from the Presque Isle Twp. fire station, and found the boat to have minimal damage. A release from the Alpena Fire Department and EMS says residents had been enjoying a fire in a nearby firepit, which may have spread to the building.

This is the first fire in the Alpena Northside are since the City Fire Department began staffing the Township’s north station at the beginning of the new year. Nine City firefighters were on the scene, as well as two Alpena Township and two Presque Isle paid-on-call firefighters.
