Sheriff offers look into new office

ALPENA COUNTY, Mich.– The new Alpena County Sheriff’s Office is almost ready.

Sheriff Kieliszewski invited WBKB to film the nearly–complete building on Friday.

The new office and jail includes more spacious offices— which will help with social distancing— and more natural light in the cells.

Sheriff Kieliszewski said the new building will be easier to maintain than the previous office.

“We had difficulties replacing a lot of the equipment inside the jail. For example, the toilet busted inside the jail that was built in 1956. It was very difficult to find a replacement.”

Kieliszewski added that the larger jail allows for better inmate categorization. He also said the building just needs some furniture and final cleanings to be ready for use.

Construction on the new building started in late 2019. The original office, built in 1956, will go up for auction in the near future.
