Saturday begins with chance of showers, then drier late-day
High temperatures Friday soared to 90 degrees at Alpena airport, which also fell just one degree short of the record for May 21. Except along the immediate shoreline, temperatures in many surrounding communities reached the upper 80s. Saturday will still remain warm. Then a cold front will crash into Northern Michigan Sunday, bringing cooler temperatures.
Moisture continues to increase, moving from southwest to northeast, into the Great Lakes region. This will provide a chance of spotty showers overnight, then a risk of showers and thunderstorms Saturday morning-midday. Late-day Saturday is looking drier. An incoming cold front out of western Canada and the northern Rockies will bring a risk of thunderstorms Sunday and cooler temperatures.
High temperatures will warm to about 80 degrees Saturday afternoon. The incoming cold front early Sunday will knock down temperatures. Sunday, highs will be only in the upper 60s to near 70. While not shown on the graph of high temperatures, Monday will begin with early-morning temperatures in the upper 40s. Highs Monday will reach the middle 60s. Warmer air will return Tuesday with highs close to 80 degrees.
Saturday: Chance of showers or thunderstorms predawn to midday, then drier later. Early-morning temperatures will begin near 62 degrees. Temperatures will rise to the lower 70s during the late-morning. Afternoon highs will be around 80 degrees. Evening temperatures will head from the middle 70s to upper 60s.
Sunday: Chance of showers or thunderstorms in the morning and afternoon. Temperatures will drop after lunchtime. Predawn lows will be close to 59 degrees. High temperatures will reach close to 69 degrees during the late-morning. Temperatures will fall to the upper 50s by suppertime.
Monday: A cooler morning, looking dry. Early-morning lows will drop to about 47 degrees. Afternoon highs will climb to around 65 degrees. Evening temperatures will be near 60 degrees or in the lower 60s.
