Heat, humidity and a risk of thunderstorms Tuesday

High temperatures today got up to 66 degrees in Alpena, held back by a breeze off Lake Huron. Notice that places off to the southwest heated up to the 80s. Temperatures reached highs of 84 degrees in Grand Rapids, Michigan and 86 degrees in Minneapolis. That warmth is heading in our direction for Tuesday.

We’ve seen a mix of sun and clouds throughout Monday. A small chance of isolated showers will move into our area overnight. An approaching warm front will bring significantly warmer temperatures, also humidity levels will climb Tuesday. A low pressure system near the Colorado-Kansas border will help feed more moisture and instability into our area. A greater chance of showers and thunderstorms will arrive Tuesday afternoon-evening.

Futurecast shows a chance of spotty showers overnight north of M-72, any showers overnight will be very few. Tuesday morning will begin dry, then chances of showers and thunderstorms move in Tuesday afternoon. Those showers and thunderstorms will progress to the east, and leave our area Tuesday night. Clearing skies will take over Wednesday.

You should take care of anything outdoors Tuesday morning, then a risk of showers and thunderstorms will move in. Wednesday is looking completely dry, with more sunshine developing. Thursday, skies will become increasingly cloudy. A few showers will be possible early Friday, but drier conditions will arrive for the afternoon and evening. However, Thursday and Friday will feel chilly.

Tuesday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening, hot and humid. Early-morning temperatures will be in the lower 60s. Temperatures will rise to the upper 70s during the late-morning. Afternoon highs will warm to about 85 degrees. Evening temperatures will be mainly in the 70s.

Wednesday: Clearing and breezy. Early-morning temperatures will begin in the lower 60s. Afternoon highs will reach close to 75 degrees. Evening temperatures will cool from the 60s around suppertime to the 50s.

Thursday: Increasing clouds and chilly. Predawn temperatures will drop to around 39 degrees. Afternoon highs will be near 55 degrees. Evening temperatures will head into the upper 40s.
