Risk of scattered storms Saturday; Warmer and drier Sunday

Scattered thunderstorms rolled through Northeast Michigan during Friday morning and Friday afternoon. A warm front sits just to the southwest of our area. Temperatures are significantly hotter on the south side of the warm front, but we will not get those hotter temperatures.

A storm system centered near the North Dakota-Canada border will bring a cold front through Northeast Michigan on Saturday. This will provide a chance of showers and thunderstorms midday-afternoon. Afterward, colder temperatures will gradually move in early next week.

Futurecast shows partly cloudy skies for tonight and early Saturday. Then some showers and thunderstorms will move through Northeast Michigan Saturday midday-afternoon. Those will end Saturday evening, and dry weather will take over for the rest of the weekend.

Cloudy, showery weather combined with winds out of the east, off of Lake Huron kept temperatures cool near the Lake Huron shoreline. High temperatures Friday reached only 65 degrees in Alpena and 61 degrees in Rogers City, Michigan. Farther away from the shoreline, highs got up to 78 degrees in Atlanta, Michigan and 83 degrees in Mio, Michigan.

Saturday: Begins dry in the morning with some breaks of sun, then a few scattered showers and thunderstorms midday-afternoon. Early-morning temperatures will drop to around 55 degrees. Afternoon highs will reach close to 73 degrees. Evening temperatures will head into the 60s.

Sunday: Morning sunshine, then increasing clouds later in the day. Brisk winds will come out of the northwest, about 15 mph. Early-morning lows will be near 55 degrees. Temperatures will rise to near 70 degrees in the late-morning. Afternoon highs will warm to around 80 degrees. Evening temperatures will cool from the middle 70s to middle 60s.

Monday: Partly cloudy. Early-morning lows will head down to about 54 degrees. Afternoon highs will get up to near 78 degrees. Evening temperatures will be in the lower 70s and 60s.
