Bright skies and cool temperatures for the next couple days

High temperatures Monday got up to 78 degrees in Alpena, although temperatures were cooler along the shoreline. In the Upper Peninsula, highs reached mainly the lower 70s. Winds out of the north will bring those cooler temperatures into our area Tuesday and Wednesday.

A few isolated showers formed west of Alpena during the afternoon, and lasted a short while. Those have drifted south and dissipated. Clear skies extend from the western Great Lakes across the Upper Plains. Plenty of sunshine will rule the forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday. Some Pacific moisture will eventually form into a storm system that will move through the Upper Plains midweek, then reach Northern Michigan late Thursday.

Temperatures will climb to the lower 70s Tuesday afternoon. Highs will be just a touch warmer Wednesday. Ahead of the next storm system, winds will shift out of the south-southwest. Those winds will bring warmer temperatures Thursday and Friday, highs will reach the lower 80s. A cold front will move through Friday, knocking down temperatures for the weekend.

Tuesday: A few clouds in the morning, then mostly sunny. Early-morning lows will head down to around 52 degrees. Afternoon highs will be near 71 degrees. Evening temperatures will cool to the 60s and upper 50s late.

Late-morning temperatures will climb to the lower 60s. Afternoon highs will get up to around 72 degrees. Evening temperatures will be in the 60s to upper 50s.
