Revolution Dance Holds their Holiday Show

Last Saturday, Revolution Dance held their holiday show at Alcona High School, and the dancers were excited to perform for not only their families, but a community that supports the school also. The Co-Owner of Revolution Dance, Kyla Avery, said this about the recital, “Right now and we’re doing our holiday show. We just concluded our second annual holiday show, and we’ve been in business for three years and so we keep growing.” Avery added, “This is just a festive time that we come together to celebrate the holidays, let our students have the opportunity to perform and show off everything they’ve been working on for the semester, and then will gear up and get ready for another semester starting in January.”

The Revolution Dance School, is true to its name by bringing dance lessons to the community who have really gotten behind it with the doors open to all ages. Giving everyone a chance to experience a passion for the performing arts. Avery said, “Absolutely that’s my whole heart is that I live in Alcona County. I’ve had over well almost 20 years of experience in dance all over different states and it was my goal to be able to use my gifts, talents and experience as well as my husband’s to pour into this community.” Avery

Continued saying, “So it’s been awesome because we had a partnership with the Schools with other organizations and of course with the families and there’s a whole elementary through high school school year so they are students looking for something to do and we also have adult classes. So it’s awesome to serve some of the adults in the community, some of the seniors in the community, just a whole bunch of people that want to get involved in performing arts.”

Even though the adult classes were available originally, Avery started them, and they have been a success, from people with dance experience to those looking for a different way to exercise or spend time with friends. Mael Fritz, a Revolution Dance dancer, explained why she liked the dance school, “Yes for me, at least I know I got four small children, so getting out of the house like it’s hard for me to pick a good time to go to the gym, but if I have Saturday and stuff that I’m gonna go to every day and I have a place I can put it on the calendar, that’s where I’m gonna go.”

The dance school partnering with the senior center to use the extra space for practice gives everyone a chance to get out and do something fun. Diann Boik, a Revolution Dance dancer, had this to say about the partnership, “I don’t know what I’d really do without the senior center. It’s a place for me to go for many reasons, but to dance with old friends, new friends of all ages, and everyone is so welcoming and it’s pretty cool, really.”
