Proposed public alley in downtown Alpena

ALPENA, Mich. — Outdoor activities like sidewalk sales, dining, art, and music for one location in Downtown Alpena was proposed at Monday night’s city council meeting.

Local Engineer, Dustin Black, looked for approval and support to make his project a reality.  In his presentation, he provided visuals of what he has in mind for the project.

Black said the location for the public alley will be from from 2nd Avenue to 3rd Avenue between Chisholm and River streets.  He said the goal of the project is to prove that this concept works.

Black added that business owners in the area see the benefit if there are more people around their businesses.

City Council came back with questions related to funding the project as well as its design.
