Posen Vikings Scheduling Switch Up Ahead of Season Opener

POSEN, MI – We are just days away from the start of the 2023-24 high school football season. Local teams have had their schedules set months in advance. The Posen Vikings had to make some quick last-minute adjustments to their calendar and the team isn’t letting the change phase them.

The Vikings schedule was set in stone until their season-opener opponents announced that their season was cancelled just last week. Posen was originally scheduled to play Hale in their first game of the 2023-24 season. With an insufficient number of players for the year, the Eagles decided last Tuesday to cancel the entire season. The cancellation led to a scheduling scramble for Posen, but the Vikings were up for the challenge. Head Coach Greg Pietsch believes these kinds of situations are just another part of the game. “You have to overcome adversity when you’re dealt with something that doesn’t go your way,” he said. “You just have to get ready for another opponent now.”

Despite the scheduling sidestep, the Vikings are up for the challenge ahead. Posen finished the 2022-23 season with a playoff appearance and they plan on taking that momentum into the upcoming season. Senior quarterback Jack Romel believes his well-seasoned team has the potential to do it again. “I think we carried over from last season,” he said. “We just have to build off of what we had.”

With their scheduled sorted, Posen is more than ready to get on the field. “I think our kids are just really motivated,” Coach Pietsch said. “We’ll adjust on the fly and just do what we can.”

The Vikings open their season on the road. Posen faces the Pellston Hornets on August 25 at 3 p.m.
