More details emerge in US-23 crash

IOSCO COUNTY, Mich. — Oscoda Police Detective Sergeant Erik McNichol confirmed that a 39–year–old mikado woman died while trapped inside her burning vehicle. Meanwhile, the sign–holder who died in the collision was a 47–year–old man from Hubbard Lake.

The crash happened early Friday morning when a semi–truck driver didn’t slow down for a construction area.

McNichol wants to remind the public to take extra care when driving near road work.

“They need to be very attentive of what’s going on. They need to be able to stop at a moment’s notice. And when stopping for roadways or lane closures, be sure to leave space between yourself and the vehicle in front of you. That way you have an emergency out if it becomes needed.”

McNichol said police are still unsure why the driver didn’t slow down.

Their investigation of the incident remains underway.
