Michigan Attorney General Nessel warns of new scam alert

LANSING, Mich. – Michiganders are of a grandparent and family emergency scam.

In once incident a set of grand parents was swindled out of $33,000.

Last week, two MidMichigan mothers and a set of grandparents received calls from alleged kidnappers demanding a ransom for their loved ones return.

In each instance, the caller knew the child or grandchild’s name and demanded payment by wire.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said if you receive such a call verify the identity and location of the child at question.

She said to confirm that information with another family member.

The attorney general’s office says to never give out any personal information over the phone.
