Meet New Alpena City Councilmember: Erinn Kane

Just after last week’s vote for mayor, the Alpena City Council conducted yet another vote to induct their newest member, Alpena local, Erinn Kane, into the Council. Kane has a wealth of experience in law and politics, and is eager to dive into the new position, “I didn’t go for the appointment just to do it as a part time basis; it wasn’t just an experimental thing to see if I like it. I have always been interested in local government. I think government should start local and should be local. I’m a big advocate of that and the people I’ve worked for in the past have been big proponents of that.”

Kane currently works as an attorney, but has spent years supporting political campaigns that represented our constituents. She’s now ready to be a change maker herself. “I’m excited to see how government works behind closed doors, you know what it’s really about, because obviously it’s different than what you read in paper and it’s going to be really fun to see something start as an idea and work its way into a reality, and I’m really excited to be a part of that,” said Kane.

During her time supporting our representatives, Kane spent many hours collecting constituent feedback and hopes to continue this approachability during her time as a council member. She wants to make sure our residents feel their voice is heard, “I’m representing all of the people of Alpena and I feel that networking and understanding what the people feel are important issues in our community are is going to make every council member, me or the other four, to do the best job that we can do, because our job is just really to represent the people of Alpena.”

While Kane’s term will be up in ten months, she plans on running for re-election to serve a full four years on the council.
