Mainly dry and warm Thursday; Greater risk of thunderstorms arrives Friday

High temperatures today reached 73 degrees in Alpena. Cloudy skies and showers at the start of the day limited how warm temperatures rose in the afternoon. Elsewhere around the state, temperatures got up to 81 degrees in Traverse City, Michigan and 83 degrees in Saginaw, Michigan. Except at the shoreline, we should end up with widespread readings in the lower 80s Thursday afternoon, feeling quite summer-like!

Most areas will end up staying dry Thursday, although there’s a tiny chance of an isolated shower. More moisture off to our southwest currently producing showers and thunderstorms across parts of Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri and Kansas will move toward our area. This will increase shower and thunderstorm chances on Friday.

Thursday will feel comfortable with dew points in the 50s. Dew points can indicate how muggy it’s going to feel. Friday and Saturday will feel more humid with dew points rising to the lower 60s. A cold front will move through Sunday morning, dropping temperatures and dew points, bringing much lower humidity levels.

Thursday: Small chance of a stray shower, mostly cloudy and likely dry. Predawn low temperatures will be close to 59 degrees. Late-morning temperatures will warm to the lower 70s. Afternoon highs will get up to about 80 degrees. Evening temperatures will remain warm, in the middle 70s to upper 60s.

Friday: Warm and more humid with scattered showers/thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening. Early-morning lows will be near 62 degrees.
