CHARLOTTE, Mich.– Applications are open for tree–planting grants.

The Michigan Arbor Day Alliance has several $2,000 dollar grants available. Communities, non–profits, and public services across the state can apply. The grant allows recipients to purchase saplings, plugs, and other greenery to plant for public purposes.

MADA Director Hannah Reynolds said the benefits are more than cosmetic.

“The US Forest Service put out a study that said for every dollar that you invest in a tree, you get three dollars back in economic and environmental value.”

She said groups have used these grants to replant cleared areas, beautify streets, and improve community centers.

You can find the applications on the MADA website.

The application period ends on April 30.
