Library commemorates city’s 150th anniversary
ALPENA, Mich.– The library’s celebrating 150 years of Alpena with a historic presentation.
Don LaBarre of the Alpena Library’s special collections will give a digital presentation on the city’s history later this month.
He’ll cover the way the region’s changed, from native hunting grounds, to bustling lumber town, to shipwreck sanctuary.
“When [this land] was first surveyed, it was ‘this is worthless land.’ [You go to] the 1850s and all of a sudden this land was worth—in today’s standards— billions of dollars’ worth of natural resources.”
LaBarre gives his presentation on March 29 at 6:00 PM.
The city will host him on their GoToMeeting account.
