Library announces tentative opening

ALPENA, Mich. — Good news, book fans. The Alpena County Library said they expect to re–open their permanent location soon.

The George N. Fletcher Public Library recently announced renovations at their First Avenue location are nearly finished.

Library director Eric Magness–Eubanks told WBKB he expects a soft opening in September or October. However, he says it’s too early to commit to a definite date because the library faces a few supply chain issues.

“There’s been a delay with shelving at the manufacturer level, and we think we’re going to get those [shelves] in early August. If it happens that way, we should be opening in the middle of September.”

Eubanks added that moving all the books will pause service for patrons. However, it shouldn’t last longer than a few weeks.

We’ll have more details on the opening as it approaches.
