Laurel Alberts Records Hat Trick in Victory Over Pinconning

ALPENA, MI – The Alpena Wildcats girls soccer team stayed hot all game long. The girls rolled past the Pinconning Spartans with an 8-0 victory at Wildcat Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

Junior forward Laurel Alberts led the way for the Wildcats scoring a hat trick, including the game-winning goal which enforced the mercy rule. She found the back of Pinconning’s net midway through the second half to bring home the win for Alpena.

The Wildcats got an early 4-0 lead over the Spartans in the first half. Junior midfielder Olivia Goodrich snuck past Pinconning’s goaltender to make it 5-0 for Alpena. The Wildcats’ offense kept up the aggression in the first. Just a few minutes later, sophomore defender Isabelle Kocan booted one right above the goalie’s head to bring the Alpena lead to 6-0.

Junior forward Reese Wisniewski stopped Pinconning’s chance on offense with a trap. She kept with the ball and found a gap in goal to add another score for the Wildcats. Alpena finished the first half of the game leading 7-0.

Pinconning picked up the pace in the second half, but it wasn’t enough against Alpena’s strong offense. Looking for the mercy rule on an unusually hot day, Alberts did just that by tallying her third goal of the game. The mercy rule took effect midway through the second half as the Wildcats took down Pinconning by a final score of 8-0.

The Wildcats return to Park Family Field as they host Ogemaw Heights on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
