Game of the Week: Rogers City Hosts Whittemore-Prescott to Top Off Homecoming Week

The high school football season is flying by. As Friday night quickly approaches, teams around the area are busy preparing for their upcoming games. WBKB Sports has selected the matchup between Rogers City and Whittemore-Prescott as our Game of the Week.

The Hurons currently sit with a 2-3 record. That’s no small feat considering the team graduated 12 players last year. With a young core, Rogers City has gotten used to adjusting on the fly to build a stronger team. The Hurons face a true test ahead hosting Whittemore-Prescott who currently have a 3-2 record. Head Coach Jesse Fenstermaker believes his young team is up for the challenge. “You have to go through the growing pains,” he said. “We’ve played some tough competition and they’ve learned a lot in a short period of time.”

The Cardinals aren’t expecting Friday’s game to be a cakewalk either. Whittemore-Prescott plays Rogers City in front of a packed crowd that’ll be rooting for the hometown team during homecoming week. Head Coach Joe Murphy has his players prepared to block out all of the Hurons’ noise. “The crowd really isn’t that big of a deal,” he said. “The guys focus in on what they have to do and just settle into the game plan.”

The Hurons hope to cap off the homecoming week festivities with a big win. “We always have good crowds in Rogers City and the atmosphere is always really good,” Fenstermaker said. “I think it’ll give our guys a boost.” Both teams have their respective game plan set, and all that’s left to do is show up and execute. “We know that they’re a good football team and we’re not taking them lightly,” Murphy said. “4-2 sounds a lot better than 3-3.”
