Game of the Week: Au Gres-Sims Seeks Third NSL Title Against Undefeated Posen

Nine weeks of high school football has flown by. We’re headlining two teams who are quite familiar with postseason appearances. Our final regular season Game of the Week belongs to the battle between the Au Gres-Sims Wolverines and Posen Vikings.

The 7-1 Wolverines are aiming for their third straight Little Dipper Conference Championship. Only one team is getting in their way and they are the undefeated Vikings. Head Coach Brian Sanchez expects nothing less than a fight from Posen on the field. “They’re going to come out ready to punch us in the mouth,” he said. “We want to be the three-time North Star League champion and they’re coming to take it from us.”

The pressure is off for the Vikings. Head Coach Greg Pietsch and his players just want to play the game to the best of their abilities. “We’re playing a really tough opponent at their place so it presents a tremendous challenge for us,” he said. “What we have to do is just go out and play Posen football and not worry about what’s going on around us.”

Emotions will be running high on the Wolverines side of the field. The team is honoring a few players for Senior Night. “This is the last home game that some of them are going to be out there,” said Sanchez. “Win or lose, you have to enjoy every minute of the game.”

The teams consider one another enemies for the week. Despite that, they seemingly found some common ground. This final regular season game will be one for the books. “In the big picture, it’s exciting and it’s a high school football game,” said Pietsch. “It’s a great challenge and I feel very honored to be a part of it.”

Posen travels to Au Gres-Sims on October 20 and kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
