Fun STEM Education Programs for Children of All Ages

Alpena High School is once again hosting Camp Invention, which is a STEM program for children of all ages. Camp Invention gives your young innovators an inspiring, action–packed summer adventure. Camp Invention is designed to give hands–on challenges that will spark their curiosity and build their confidence as they work on skills like problem solving, inspire their creativity, develop a sense of persistence and explore their entrepreneurship ideas and skills.

Brittany Giordano the Director of Alpena’s Camp Invention provides more details about the camp, “Camp Invention is a STEM based camp, so we do science, technology, education and mathematics. Summer camp is run through [the] National Inventors Hall of Fame which works with patents and things of that nature and it runs every summer all across the country.”

This years Camp Invention is scheduled to start today [July 31st] all the way until August 4th, and the kids will be learning four different modules. Those modules being mimic bots where the kids take apart robots to learn how they work and put them back together. There’s also catching air which is all about air and balance, the kids will also be learning about gravity and build small skate parks just to see how gravity works. They will be doing a pop–up venture which is where the kids can figure out their own store they want to have and lastly, they’ll have an invention celebration which is where the kids will have to figure our how they would celebrate some sort of invention. Brittany added, “So, each day they learn something new until it culminates of Friday and we have 45 students ranging from Kindergarten through Sixth grade from all across the district and some even from out of town.”

Just because Camp Invention started, it doesn’t mean you lost out on the opportunity to sign up your kids, “If kids still wanted to sign up online, their parents can go to invent.org and they can look for Alpena camp and it runs all week. We do still have spaces available if students want to come, they would sign up online and I check that daily.”

This years camp saw a lot of students return to participate once again saying how much they love and look forward to this summer camp. Alpena’s Director, Brittany, encourages parents and students to sign up for some summer fun and learning.
