Drivers kick up dirt at 2021 “Bump and Run” kickoff

ALPENA, Mich. — Prepare for excitement because the Alpena Bump and Run is back for 2021!

Drivers take all kinds of modded cars and vans to the dirt track to find out who can muscle their way to the top. And we mean muscle. Drivers in these races rely on raw power to push each other aside.

Cycle Club member Bernard Borowski says the club has multiple safety precautions.

“We have a safety crew ready to help get [the drivers] out and make sure everyone’s okay. All the cars have roll cages. The gas tanks are secured. They’ve got seat belts. Everything’s in safety for the drivers. They all have to wear helmets, of course.”

One of the day’s most exciting moments came after Round 2, when car 311 overheated and caught fire. Thankfully, crews put it out quickly and towed 311 away for repairs.

At the end of the day, Jason Foust took first place, followed by Eric Tolsdorf and Tyler DeCare.

Be on the lookout for more races this summer
