ALPENA, Mich.– Many of us are probably thinking about warmer climates because of the current biting cold. But District Health Department No. 4 recommends you hold off on travel.

Dr. Josh Meyerson, Medical Director at DHD 4, said domestic travelers should take all the precautions they normally would when going out. He also recommends having back–up plans in case you get exposed to the virus during your trip.

“[Think about] ‘what are we going to do? We may not get home on the day we were supposed to. Can we afford to hole up in a hotel somewhere? What are our options? What’s our Plan B and our Plan C?’ I think that’s important for people to think about in advance.”

Meyerson said if you visit family, keep your groups small and stay the night at a separate location to minimize contact. He also said you should research any potential destination. Find out their COVID rates, available activities, and which restaurants offer delivery or pick–up.

Finally, he emphasized the safest option is still to avoid travel altogether.
