Decreasing clouds Election Day; Warm midweek

High temperatures across the Midwest today reached 47 degrees in Alpena, 51 degrees in Chicago and 66 degrees in Omaha, Neb. Winds will become out of the south Tuesday, then out of the southwest Wednesday, which will bring warmer temperatures to Northeast Michigan.

Tuesday, high temperatures will climb to 50 degrees. A stretch of daily highs warming to the lower 60s will begin Wednesday. Warm afternoon temperatures will continue Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Warm temperatures will last from the middle of the week through the weekend, becoming well above the long-term normal for early November — near 48 degrees.

Tuesday: Partly cloudy in the afternoon, completely dry weather for anyone voting on Election Day. Early-morning temperatures will start in the lower 30s. Afternoon highs will be near 50 degrees. Evening temperatures will be in the middle 40s.

Wednesday: Sunny skies and warm temperatures. Early-morning temperatures will be in the lower 40s. Afternoon highs will get up to 63 degrees. Evening temperatures will be in the lower 50s.

Thursday: Partly cloudy. Early-morning temperatures will be in the middle 40s. Afternoon highs will reach about 62 degrees. Evening temperatures will dip to the lower 50s/upper 40s.

Looking back at October, temperatures averaged slightly cooler than normal and the month’s rainfall totaled slightly wetter than normal. The average of the daily high temperatures last month was 53 degrees, about 3 degrees cooler than normal. Likewise, lows throughout October averaged to 34 degrees, which is 3 degrees cooler than normal. Rainfall for the month added up to 3.35 inches, nearly three-quarters of an inch more than normal.
