Beginning Thursday, Oct. 1, MidMichigan Health’s Walk-In Care clinic requires an appointment

ALPENA, Mich. – To safely accommodate patients with potentially contagious illnesses and ensure social distancing, all services at MidMichigan Health’s Walk-In Care clinic on Long Rapids Road will require an appointment beginning Thursday, Oct. 1. Patients should call ahead to make a same-day appointment at (989) 354-4406.

The Walk-In Care clinic will focus on caring for patients with any of the following symptoms:

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Fatigue
  • Runny nose

Patients with any other non-emergency symptoms should call their primary care provider.

“We want all patients to feel they can safely come to us for care, including those who are experiencing contagious seasonal illnesses such as COVID-19 or influenza,” said Pam Dietz, director, MidMichigan Physicians Group. “Scheduled appointments enable us to take all the necessary precautions so that we can see patients quickly and safely on a same-day basis. It is very important that patients call ahead and answer all screening questions as honestly and completely as possible, so that we can direct patients to the right location for the fastest, safest, most appropriate care.”

Dietz also stated that MidMichigan’s Family Medicine office on Long Rapids Road will offer same-day appointments for acute symptoms that are not listed above, such as urinary tract infections, minor injuries or dermatology concerns. Patients who would normally have gone to Walk-In Care for those conditions may call the Family Medicine office at (989) 354-2142 extension 4 to request a same-day appointment.
