Backcourt Duo of Barbeau and Flaugher Respectively Hit 1,000 Points

HILLMAN, MI – The MHSAA girls basketball districts play is set to begin on March 4. While local teams continue their preparations, two Hillman players are heading into the post-season with some extra special momentum.

February 17 was a game to remember for Nicole Barbeau. The guard hit the 1,000 points scoring milestone securing her keepsake basketball and poster to commemorate the moment. “Once I knew I was close,” said Barbeau. “I settled down and then once I hit it, I just had no nerves anymore.”

Yet, Barbeau’s backcourt partner wasn’t far behind. In fact, only a few days later on February 22, Hillman etched a second 1,000 points memento ball for Saige Flaugher. “It was a great accomplishment for me,” said Flaugher. “It was something that I had been striving for awhile.”

The dynamic duo spent all four years of their varsity careers as partners. According to them, their history dates back to what feels like forever. Having played together since middle school, it’s only right that the two finish off senior year with a bang. “I feel like we’ve always been a threat to other teams,” said Barbeau. “It’s just amazing for both of us to be able to hit that mark.”

In his 16 years of coaching, John Kuzewski has never had two of his players reach 1,000 points in the same season. “To see them accomplish a goal that they both set out to do,” said Kuzewski. “The amazing thing is to do it within a couple games of one another.”

With 1,000 points under their belt, the pair of Tigers prepares for their final ride together. Hillman’s first district game is set for March 4 at 7 p.m.
